This Old House
Peculiarities & Rules
Please read this page carefully! It explains critical aspects of staying at the farmhouse.
-
We are on a septic system. It is absolutely essential that nothing other than toilet paper and, well, you know, go in the toilets. Septic repairs are very expensive.
-
We are on well water. When you first use the hot water, you may smell a bit of sulphur from the sediments that have collected in the water heater. It will go away on its own, or you can run the hot water in one of the tubs or sinks for a few minutes.
-
There is no central a/c. There are portable/window a/c units for the upstairs rooms.
-
The bedrooms are interconnected by a bathroom and two staircases, one of which is spiral. This means that to get to the twin bedroom or the loft bedroom, you will need to walk through another bedroom and/or bathroom.
-
There are a washer and dryer in the unfinished part (i.e. 1840) of the basement. Wear shoes if you want to use them.
-
Smoking is not allowed anywhere on the property.
-
Sorry, no pets.
-
Please close the west windows (facing the road) if it rains.
-
The upstairs shower/tub drains slowly. Please clean the mesh drain catch after each use (use a piece of toilet paper and put the ick in the toilet, not the tub drain).
-
Please douse any firepit fires after use. There is firewood in the barn.
-
If you want to use the wood-burning stove in the great hall/dining room, be sure to open the flue on the black pipe. Vertical is open.
-
Check-in is generally around 3:00 pm. Check out is around 11:00 am.
